FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
Arnold Denker, a former United States chess champion who devoted the latter part of his life to teaching the game to the next generation, has died. He was 90.

Denker died early Sunday of brain cancer, said his son, Mitchell Denker of Belleview.

Denker gained early acclaim at age 15 by winning the New York City individual interscholastic championship in 1929. In 1940 he won the first of six championships of the Manhattan Chess Club and set a world record by playing 100 opponents in 7.33 hours, beating the previous record by one hour, according to his biography."

Truly sad. Denker was one of my favorites.
